The New House Begins

On January 7, 2005, construction began on the big house ( for want of a better term).  We quickly found out that the sight we had picked was on a pretty impressive slope. This would have put the car port and driveway 8 feet from the  ground and our main entry would actually have set like a two story house.  So a quick call to to Ferremax resulted in a tractor arriving this morning to help level the ground.  The best plan of attack appears to be to cut the distance in half, 4 feet, and put a small retaining wall to the rear of the house about 6 feet or so from the property fence line.  So here is what's happening.  This view has Volcán in the background.

It doesn't look like much of a slope, but the eye can easily be deceived.  Here is another view with Violet standing in front.  The Guest House is directly behind the dig.

There is one more shot of the tractor removing dirt from the site.  The view is to the Northwest.  If you look closely, you can see a rainbow coming off the top of the backhoe and going to the left.  I wonder if there is a pot of gold under there. Hmmm.

Well, that's it for today, January 7, 2005.  We will try to keep you updated on the progress of Serina's new digs.
