Asi Es La Vida

It's been a few days since I've posted anything new and I must confess I just don't know where the time has gone nor where it is going.  We ran into an issue with the toledo roof.  Franklin Jurado was supposed to supply  the caballete which is the ridge cap that covers the peaks on the roof.  After being told over 2 weeks ago that all materials were on hand.  Franklin Jurado tried the old switcheroo for the caballete.  They wanted to substitute 8 foot long sections of ridge cap with pressed patterned tile simulation.  The down side to this is the flanges are wide and don't carry the tile pattern to the edge.  Simply stated, this would not look as well as using the toledo caballete which is for all intensive purposes a 14"tile stamped out of galvanized steel and painted to look like terra cotta.  Suffice it to say I found caballete at Casa de Constructor in David and saved about 53 cents a piece in the bargain.  The time then arrived to find some touch up paint for the caballete and toledo panels.  I am not so foolish as to believe that there will be no nicks and scratches.  This turned out to be two day experience to find the paint at a reasonable price.  A stop at the Glidden Paint store across the street from Iglesia Carmen proved frustrating with a response of come back tomorrow afternoon.  After explaining that we were not around the corner the response was still come back tomorrow.  There were alternatives.  A trip to Sherwin Williams solved the problem with the assistance of Rubén Carreńo G.  He is a technical representative who works at Sherwin Williams.  After showing Rubén what  I wanted and with some experimentation, the proper color was obtained and I had time to tell my tale of "paint quest" to Rubén to which he replied"Asi es la vida".  It was a point well taken and one which I had lost sight of in my haste to get things done.  I still have to find the end caps and that may require a road trip.

As you can see from this picture the rear of the house is coming along.  The tie beam is completed here and wall about the fireplace is getting set up to take the steel which should begin next week.

This is a view of the great room taken from the front left corner.  To the right is the island and you can see the fireplace to the left.

This a view down the hallway towards the master suite.

Here is a shot of the great room wall with fireplace.  The blocks on top will form the support wall for the steel for the patio roof.  Serina comes in to investigate.

I took this shot this morning.  You can see the tie beam for the car port in front of the house.

Now how did that get in there!!??

Forms are being put up for the support wall for the patio steel.

A closer look. Cecilio's brother is doing the high wire act.

This view shows the master bedroom on the right and my study next to it.
