Our Trip to Arenal Volcano

In February we decided to take a road trip to Costa Rica.  One of the biggest draws there is Arenal Volcano.  Here are some of the photos we took.

We got to Fortuna in the afternoon and here is the first shot from our hotel.  You can see the smoke/dust on the sides of the volcano.

This shot was taken around 3:30 in the morning.  The topmost red glow is the top of the Arenal with a slight reflection of light off of the smoke. The elongated lines are multiple red hot rocks that have been ejected by the volcano and are not lava.

This shows multiple hot rocks crashing down the sides of Arenal.  The long exposure time gives the illusion of lava.

This picture was taken around 5:30 in the morning central standard time.  As you can see dawn has arrived, but the hot rocks are still visible.

This is a close up of the business end of Arenal.  On the left are clouds.  TO the right and above is smoke from the throat of the volcano.

This shot was taken from a viewing point several kilometers from our hotel.  It was taken during the early evening hours and you can just barely make out the outline of the base of the volcano.
